Love For Vintage Kanjeevaram Sarees

Love For Vintage Kanjeevaram Sarees

As, a kid I would admire my mom drape beautiful sarees. She was a teacher and would wear sarees to work. I would drape her sarees and play pretend teacher. That’s when I fell in love with sarees. She would wear Kanjeevaram silk sarees on special occasions with a red bindi and always looked so graceful.

The thing I love the most about any vintage saree is the story behind it.  Do you love draping your grandmother’s or mother’s sarees ? I certainly do, because I can feel their love and warmth in them. These sarees can be passed onto the next generation because of their quality. They are made with pure silk and pure Zari which makes them timeless.

I have draped a red vintage Kanjeevaram silk saree with floral motifs all over the body.

It has a Persian blue border with Annapakshi  and Rudraksh motifs.  Annapakshi or the divine swan is a mythical bird which flew down to the earth from heaven. The word Rudraksha is made of two words, Rudra means Lord Shiva and Aksha means eyes, hence the Rudraksha signifies Shiva’s eyes.

The border of the saree is attached by the Korvai technique. The Korvai is one of the prized technique of the south. It involves a specialised process where the borders and pallu, are woven separately. The borders are then skilfully woven into the body of the saree.

Thinking about what to wear to your friends or relatives wedding? Just raid your mother’s sareerobe and drape a beautiful vintage saree to look like a timeless beauty.
